The Candle Filter, commonly referred to as a Fiber Bed Filter, is specifically designed for the removal of fine mist particles smaller than 2 microns. This filter utilizes a combination of two primary mechanisms: impingement for the removal of particles larger than 1-2 microns, and diffusion for the capture of finer, sub-micron particles where Brownian motion becomes the dominant force.
Candle Filters
Each filter candle is composed of millions of individual fibers. To ensure optimal filtration performance, low approach velocities are required to align with the diffusion velocities that are characteristic of Brownian motion. The candles are installed vertically, with gases flowing horizontally through the filter media. As the gas passes through the filter, mist particles are captured, coalesce, and drain through the filter bed.
Ongoing advancements in Candle Filter technology, informed by extensive application experience across a wide range of industries, enable Kimre ™ Clean Air Technology to offer a selection of filters tailored to meet diverse operational requirements in terms of capacity, pressure drop, and mist removal efficiency.
A broad range of fiber materials is available, including Fiberglass, Carbon, Polypropylene, Polyester, PTFE, and ETFE. For Fiberglass fibers, various fiber diameters and bed densities can be selected to achieve specific performance criteria, balancing efficiency, pressure drop, and available housing space. These filters are available in different configurations, including high-efficiency Brownian diffusion types, high-velocity impaction types, and intermediate configurations.
Kimre custom designs all filters to meet the specific needs of the customer and the process conditions. Our engineering team ensures that each solution is optimized for the unique requirements of the application. Additionally, Kimre Candle Filter systems can be retrofitted to existing installations, providing an efficient and cost-effective upgrade to improve mist removal performance. We also offer both new filters and replacement filters, ensuring continued reliability and optimal filtration efficiency over the life of the system.
